This is a Vintage 1932 Improved Construction Cunneen Hack Saw which came out of a tool collectorÜ#39;s estate and it is in good looking and in good cutting condition. Molded onto one side of the rubberized handle is "Quad," and on the other are the patent numbers which correspond with the years 1924 through 1932. Peter Cunneen invented new and useful improvements in this hack saw which included means for quickly adjusting the tension of the saw blade, the reversible frame was revised so that the depth of the cut of the saw can be varied as desired, and the handle can be adjusted laterally with respect to the cutting plane of the saw. This saw is impressively well built and versatile and unfortunately as far as we can tell most hack saw makers have not carried on with CunneenÜ#39;s improvements, probably due largely to the additional expense. It illustrates fascinating basic tool historical development and design whether you add it to your collection, use it for educational display and/or for other creative purpose. It measures 5/8"x5"x13-1/4" and weighs 2 pounds.
